Political Digest for August 29, 2011

Old Jarhead Blog Removed
Twice in the last two weeks, both times on Saturdays, when you log on to my blog at http://www.tartanmarine.blogspot.com/, readers got a "blog removed" message with no explanation. Both times I logged on to Blogspot and posted a query and the blog returned in a few hours. They say they have a system for auto removing Spam blogs, but mine has zero advertising, except me books, I kill Spam posts, and it has been up since 2008. I don't know if it is a blogspot glitch, like the way they sometimes change scheduled posts to drafts, or an attack, It is costing me readers--weekly page views dropped in that time from over 4k to about 3k. If you get that message, please try again later.

Dennis Miller Interview
I’m scheduled to be interviewed about The Coming Collapse of the American Republic on Dennis Miller’s radio program at 11:34 am, EDT on Tuesday, August 30, 2011. You can listen live for free at DennisMillerradio.com.

Shame on the adults who make CPS kids an afterthought
Excerpt: "We fully support a better, smarter school day for our children, but teachers are now being asked to work 29 percent longer for only a 2 percent pay increase," said CTU President Karen Lewis. "To that we say, 'Thanks but no thanks.'" You've got to be kidding me. Only 57 percent of CPS students graduate from high school. The vast majority of juniors aren't remotely ready for college. Many of those who are doing well come from the so-called selective-enrollment schools, schools as good as if not better than any in the state. But that's a legacy of the corrupt system. One tier is the top tier and it's all shiny and new, with the top students, schools so exemplary that politicians and other very important people are desperate to clout their kids in. (Democrat politicians get elected by rewarding Democrat teachers' unions at the expense of the kids. What else is new. In Washington, Obama's kids go to private school, but he killed the voucher system that gave poor black kids the same chance, at the behest of the unions. ~Bob.)

Marine donates kidney to comrade
Excerpt: Nicknamed "Superman" because of his chiseled 6-foot-3 frame, Marine Lt. Patrick Wayland saved his most heroic act for last. He donated a kidney to a comrade he never met. Wayland, a flight student at Pensacola Naval Air Station, died Aug. 5 during water survival training. He was already an organ donor, but while he was on life support his family decided they wanted to help...

The guy the sharks fear
Excerpt: If you can judge a political candidate by the enemies he makes, Texas Gov. Rick Perry stands pretty tall. For example, the national tort-lawyer lobby is set to spend millions to try to stop the GOP presidential hopeful in his tracks. No wonder: Perry, in his 10 years as Texas governor, has managed to implement serious tort reform in a state that even a top litigator concedes was once “the golden goose” for high-end jury verdicts. Don’t think for a moment, though, that the tort bar is gearing up in the names of truth, justice and the
American Way
. As John Coale, a former tort lawyer and major Democratic contributor, told Politico: “Most of the guys I know don’t like [President Obama] . . . But when your livelihood, your money’s on the line, it concentrates the mind.” Which is why, adds Politico, “among litigators, there is no presidential candidate who inspires the same level of hatred — and fear — as Perry.” Since 2003, Texas has become a model for national tort reform. That year, the state enacted a $250,000 cap on medical liability for non-economic damages.

Must Read: Adult children’s ‘bad mothering’ lawsuit dismissed
You wonder why people hate attorneys as a class? You think we don't need heavy reform of the system? All three attorneys who took this harassment case should have their licenses suspended for a year. ~Bob. Excerpt: Excerpt: Raised in a $1.5 million Barrington Hills, Ill., home by their attorney father, two grown children have spent the last two years pursuing a unique lawsuit against their mom for "bad mothering" that alleges damages caused when she failed to buy toys for one and sent another a birthday card he didn’t like. The alleged offenses include failing to take her daughter to a car show, telling her then 7-year-old son to buckle his seat belt or she would contact police, "haggling" over the amount to spend on party dresses and calling her daughter at midnight to ask that she return home from celebrating homecoming. Last week, at which point the court record stood about a foot tall, an Illinois appeals court dismissed the case, finding that none of the mother’s conduct was "extreme or outrageous." To rule in favor of her children, the court found, "could potentially open the floodgates to subject family childrearing to ... excessive judicial scrutiny and interference." In 2009, the children, represented by three attorneys including their father, Steven A. Miner, sued their mother, Kimberly Garrity. Steven II, now 23, and his sister Kathryn, now 20, sought more than $50,000 for "emotional distress."

The Obama Regime doesn’t want you to know the details about a tax fraud settlement case with an Islamic bank tied to terrorist groups
Excerpt: The Justice Department has agreed to end its investigation into an international Islamic financial network with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and a Saudi prince in a settlement in excess of $37 million. You just haven’t heard about it. The Obama Justice Department has declined to release the settlement agreement, or even publicly acknowledge its existence. Main Justice (H/T Liana) -The Islamic Investment Co. of the Gulf (Bahamas) Ltd., which reportedly has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, agreed to pay some $37 million to resolve an investigation into whether the firm structured its real estate investments to unlawfully avoid U.S. taxes on them, according to people familiar with the matter. The first third of the settlement is already paid, these people said. But the company inked a non-prosecution agreement with the government, which means the deal doesn’t require court approval and isn’t filed in public. When asked about the settlement earlier this week, Justice Department spokesman Charles Miller said: “I have nothing on this.”

Recidivist at Rikers
Excerpt: Prison chaplains are supposed to empathize, but Imam Aziz Ud-Din Bilal, who works at Rikers Island, has been taking things a little too far. He was busted Tuesday in a Queens prostitution sting -- his stunning18th arrest in New York City since 1970. How he’s managed to keep his $50,000-a-year job at Rikers for the past two decades is a mystery to us. Heck, it’s probably a mystery to him, too. Many Rikers inmates might envy Bilal’s rap sheet: Those 18 arrests include bribery charges, two prison stints for robbery and a 1985 murder charge (he was acquitted). Last year he was investigated when cops found an unlicensed 9mm handgun in his Mercedes Benz when it was impounded. But only now, after his fifth arrest since he started working at Rikers in 1990, has Bilal been suspended from duty. By the way, Bilal has run for the City Council three times. During his run last year, he told a newspaper that “increasing job opportunities is his top priority.” Somebody should tell the imam that soliciting prostitutes isn’t what most people consider to be a proper jobs program. It goes without saying that Bilal needs to be canned, pronto. But if hiring recidivist criminals to staff prisons is the best the city can do, well ... say your prayers.

So, how's the "soft-diplomacy-Chamberlin approach working out, BO? ~Bob. Excerpt: The Iranian president said on Friday there will be no room for Israel in the region after the formation of a Palestinian state, and that once the state is established, the liberation of all Palestinian lands should follow. The comments by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reflected his typical anti-Israeli rhetoric, which has drawn international condemnation since he first said in 2005 that Israel should be "wiped off the map." Ahmadinejad spoke at a Tehran ceremony following nationwide pro-Palestinian rallies marking Quds Day. Quds is the Arabic word for Jerusalem. The annual demonstration is an occasion for Iranian officials to show off their support for Palestinians and condemn archenemy Israel.

The Perry/Aga Khan curriculum: Ace folds, presents as the curriculum material that isn't the curriculum at all
Excerpt: Pamela Geller and I are catching hell all over for criticizing the Perry/Aga Khan curriculum about Islam in Texas schools, but here's the thing: the material that David Stein and the Ace of Spades blog are quoting as the Perry/Aga Khan curriculum is not actually part of the curriculum at all. Ace of Spades is one of those juvenile, leering fratboy blogs that has never appealed to me. The first time this was sent to me, I took a look, saw how inaccurate, fact-free, and contemptuous (to say nothing of contemptible) the presentation was, and hadn't intended to reply. Ace can't even spell Pamela Geller's name right. But as the strange attempt to shut down all skepticism about Rick Perry continues, and people keep sending Ace's post to me, and pointing out that it is being picked up all over, so here goes. And Pamela Geller smacks down Ace here.

‘Anti-Muslim’ author beaten
Halton police are treating an attack on a first-time author whose self-published book has been branded anti-Muslim as a possible hate crime. Raised Islamic, Paris Dipersico, 24, reported being dragged from his bicycle Aug. 17, tied up among trees, then beaten briefly unconscious by two Muslim men. Accused of being gay, they then "called me a Jew in Arabic and said the Jews are paying you to write this against Islam," the author of Wake Up Call said Thursday. Dipersico said he also received a "death threat" on his Facebook site, then someone stole files and backup writing discs after breaking into the home he shares with cousin Gabrielle Dipersico -- who helped design the book and whose photo is on the cover. Believing the threat came "from the Middle East," he said it demanded he remove offensive language. ,,, Dipersico wrote "Islam is a religion of 'peace' and Muslims will kill you to prove it," but said "I'm not saying every Muslim is violent or every Muslim is a bad person." Fully realizing "for a Muslim to go against Islam, the punishment is death," he said violent ones are often "ignorant," brainwashed with twisted religion-based messages. (If the Jihadists don't like me writing about the people they slaughter in the name of Allah, mostly fellow Muslims, they can just come down here to my ranch in New Mexico and shoot it out with me. ~Bob.)

State Department: Don't Invade Privacy of Cleric on CIA Kill List
You see killing him is fine, but invading his privacy is non-PC! You think the country can survive with idiots like this running things? ~Bob. Excerpt: While the New Mexico-born cleric, Anwar al-Awlaki, is the first American on the CIA's kill or capture list, the U.S. State Department refuses to release documents about al-Awlaki citing his right to privacy. This disconnect was uncovered as part of the ongoing investigation by Fox News' Specials Unit into the cleric who is a leader of a major Al Qaeda affiliate.

Democratic Egypt to Ban Bikinis, Beer and King Tut
Excerpt: Remember when every Ron Burgundy out there was giddy as a schoolgirl telling us that Egyptian “freedom fighters” were getting rid of that old meanie Mubarak and were headed for a “democracy” in the land of Pharaoh? I sure do. I particularly remember the reporters selling us that smack during the outset of the Arab Spring: “Revolutionaries,” they called the Egyptian dissidents—veritable “mutineers from Mubarak’s mayhem, sick of servitude and longing for liberty, just like Paul Revere!” They flung that noise, or something to that effect, at us with goggle-eyed glee each day for weeks on end.

Lawmakers criticize defense cuts after report on China's military buildup
Excerpt: Conservative lawmakers and analysts are seizing on the Pentagon’s finding that China is “closing the gap” with other militaries to criticize the Obama administration’s plans to pare U.S defense spending. The critics say the president does not fully grasp the Asian giant’s global ambitions. “The [Pentagon’s] China military power report acknowledges China's insatiable desire to become a 'world class economic and military power' as it advances toward transforming its military into a dominant regional force by 2020 and an unrivaled international power by 2050,” House Armed Services Readiness subcommittee Chairman Randy Forbes (R-Va.) said. Forbes then turned his sights, in a veiled way, on plans to trim at least $350 billion from U.S. military budgets between 2013 and 2023.

U.S. to let illegal immigrants seek work permit
So here's the game. If they catch you at the border, they turn you back--but you get to try again. If you sneak by them and don't commit any additional crimes--illegal entry is a crime--they give you a work permit. Who said politics makes sense. ~Bob. Excerpt: The Obama administration said Thursday it will allow many illegal immigrants facing deportation the chance to stay in this country and apply for a work permit, while focusing on removing from the U.S. convicted criminals and those who might be a national security or public safety threat. That will mean a case-by-case review of approximately 300,000 illegal immigrants facing possible deportation in federal immigration courts, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in announcing the policy change. Advocates for an immigration overhaul have said that the administration, by placing all illegal immigrants in the same category for deportation, has failed to live up to its promise to only deport the "worst of the worst," as President Barack Obama has said. "From a law enforcement and public safety perspective, DHS enforcement resources must continue to be focused on our highest priorities," Napolitano wrote a group of senators supporting new immigration legislation. "Doing otherwise hinders our public safety mission -- clogging immigration court dockets and diverting DHS enforcement resources away from the individuals who pose a threat to public safety."

City officials in New Mexico who were smuggling guns to cartels in POLICE CARS!
Tell me this is made up, that everyone involved didn't fall out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down. ~Bob. Excerpt: Several city officials of the New Mexico border town of Columbus recently admitted they smuggled firearms and tactical gear to the La Linea drug cartel. And now, it turns out, that case may be linked to "Operation Fast and Furious", the malevolent Justice Department project that shipped thousands of murder weapons to Mexican drug gangs.

The New MLK Statue is a Fine Example of Chinese Communist Iconography
Let's have no more talk that Obama hasn't created jobs. Okay, they're in China, but still.... ~Bob. Excerpt: However, there has been controversy over the choice of Lei Yixin, a 57-year-old master sculptor from Changsha in Hunan province, to carry out the work. Critics have openly asked why a black, or at least an American, artist was not chosen and even remarked that Dr King appears slightly Asian in Mr Lei’s rendering. Mr Lei, who has in the past carved two statues of Mao Tse-tung, one of which stands in the former garden of Mao Anqing, the Chinese leader’s son, carried out almost all of the work in Changsha.

Obama's illegal uncle arrested for DUI; 'Uncle Omar' almost hits cop car
Excerpt: A number of media outlets have already reported that an illegal immigrant from Kenya by the name of Onyango Obama, 67, was arrested last week on Wednesday after he nearly rammed his SUV into a police car in Framingham, Massachusetts. He was later charged with DUI among other violations. I spoke to Framingham Public Information Officer Lieutenant Delaney who told me that when Onyango Obama was asked at booking if he wanted to make a telephone call to arrange for bail, the Kenyan immigrant replied: "I think I will call the White House." (FORWARDER WRITES: BO too busy with the laying-on of hands over sea & wind to take notice.........and if Uncle Omar ever got through to the W.H. switchboard, they'd tell him to call Eric Holder for immediate assistance. According to Holder's new DOJ 'rules and regs,' no one who is illegal ... can ever be given a citation for almost any infraction. So the arresting officer in this case would be instructed to give Uncle Omar a bottle of Vodka and wave him on his way........)

The Week That Was: 2011-08-27 (August 27, 2011)
Excerpt: The article and press release were low keyed, as opposed to the UN IPCC release of its "Summary for Policymakers" of the Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) which was a big celebration in Paris with a fireworks display. The reactions were mixed. Proponents of the Svensmark hypothesis that cosmic rays, modulated by the sun, are important in cloud formation, therefore climate, emphasized that component of the experiment. Proponents of the idea that carbon dioxide (CO2) is the control knob of climate emphasized the sulfur and ammonia aerosol component, largely dismissing cosmic rays. What is clear is that models being used to make dire predictions of future climate are inadequate.
