The difference

This has been going around the net, without credit to the author. There is enough truth to the idea that Individualist tend to be Republicans while Statists tend to be Democrats that I thought it worth putting up. ~Bob

If you ever wondered which side of the fence you sit on, this is a great 8-point test!

If a Republican doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a Democrat doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a Republican is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a Democrat is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a Republican is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a Democrat is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a Republican is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A Democrat wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a Republican doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Democrats demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a Republican is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A Democrat non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.

If a Republican decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or
may choose a job that provides it.
A Democrat demands that the rest of us pay for his.

If a Republican reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh.
A Democrat will delete it because he's "offended".

Well, I forwarded it – guess you know where I stand.

  1. Very disingenuous. Here's a few others:

If a Republican hates gays, he demands discriminatory laws defining marriage as one man and one woman.
If a Democrat hates gays, he shuts up.

If a Republican doesn't like a Democratic President, he gets his friends to lambast him on talk radio 24/7.
If a Democrat doesn't like a Republican President, he gets his friends to do nothing.

If a Republican candidate for President doesn't like a country, he sings "Bomb Bomb Bomb (country)".
If a Democratic candidate for President doesn't like a country, he vacations somewhere else.

If a Republican feels his job is threatened, he demands federal tariffs.
If a Democrat feels his job is threatened, he demands federal tariffs.
(Okay, maybe both are statists in that regard.)

If a Republican celebrates Christmas, he demands that everyone do so in public and throws a hissy fit if the Walmart greeter says "Happy Holidays."
If a Democrat celebrates Christmas, he just celebrates Christmas.

If a Republican doesn't like a historical fact, he goes to Texas and gets the school board to change it.
If a Democrat doesn't like a historical fact, he grows up.

If a Republican doesn't like a mathematical fact, he legislates Pi to be 3.
If a Democrat doesn't like a mathematical fact, he grows up.

If a Republican is President, he increases the deficit.
If a Democrat is President, he decreases the deficit.

Hmm ... Maybe it's not quite as lopsided.

  2. Apparently, when a Republican gets his panties in a bunch he makes a cute little email full of lies that other republicans will believe.

  3. If a Republican doesn't like a book, he'll try to censor it.
If a Democrat doesn't like a book, he'll write a critique about it.

If a Republican doesn't like abortion, he'll harbor deep sympathies with murderers of abortion doctors as well as wanting all abortions outlawed.
A Democrat will respect the woman's right to choose.

If a Republican doesn't like a gay marriage, he'll vote against it.
A Democrat will understand that this isn't a matter of liking it or not, but a matter of equal rights for all Americans.

If a Republican is rich, he thinks about how to better his situation.
If a Democrat is rich, he thinks about how to better the less fortunate's situations.

If a Republican likes a talk show host, he'll take his word as gospel.
If a Democrat realized there's become a blur between editorial and news shows, he'll campaign for better seperation of the two.

If a Republican is a non-believer, he'll do nothing against religion being institutionalized.
If a Democrat is a non-believer, he'll understand the clause in the first amendment as follows:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.

If a Republican sees someone unable to afford healthcare, he'll scoff at them for not trying hard enough.
If a Democrat sees someone unable to afford healthcare, he'll try to understand social inequalities leading to said circumstances.

If a Democrat reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh.
A Republican will delete it because he doesn't like dissenting opinions.

Two can play the "sensational tabloid" game.

  4. Shame on you all. You all act like children, playing games.
“When you love people and have the desire to make a profound, positive impact
upon the world, then will you have accomplished the meaning to live.”
Maybe you should listen to John Lennon's song "Imagine."

    Brilliant!

  6. Pretty much true, and SO obvious that only a democratic wouldn't see it.

  8. Rob... I think you're full of baloney. Your examples of democrats versus republicans don't happen on THIS planet. Have you been watching the Star Trek episode with the parallel universe?

  9. I responded in a slightly different manner on my blog. The single response I got was via e-mail, from a staunch Republican, claiming that it was painfully obvious that I was a Democrat based on my views.

The funny thing is, I don't side with either party.

My reponse can be found at http://womprat99.livejournal.com/6916.html
